NexGard is a beef-flavored monthly soft chewable that kills adult fleas and is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis) and the treatment and control of Black-legged (deer) tick (Ixodes scapularis), American Dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis), Lone Star tick (Amblyomma americanum) and Brown Dog Tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus) infestations in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older.

How does NexGard work?
The active ingredient in NexGard, afoxolaner, works on the nervous system of fleas and ticks, causing hyperexcitation and death.

What results can I expect?
NexGard kills adult fleas and is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis) and the treatment and control of American Dog Tick infestations (Dermacentor variabilis) in dogs.

Treatment with NexGard may begin at any time of the year. In areas where fleas are common year-round, monthly treatment should continue the entire year without interruption. To minimize the likelihood of flea reinfestation, it is important to treat all animals within the household (along with the environment) with an approved flea product.

What should I discuss with my veterinarian while considering NexGard?
If fleas or ticks are already present, discuss what other control measures should be used. Talk about what flea products to use on any other pets in the household, since all pets should be treated if there is an infestation. Have your veterinarian explain the life cycle of the flea and how that influences the effectiveness of monthly flea products.

NexGard should be used with caution in dogs with a history of seizures. The safety of NexGard has not been evaluated in pregnant, lactating or breeding dogs. Tell your veterinarian if your pet has epilepsy, could be pregnant, is lactating or is used for breeding.

As with any medication, notify your veterinarian of any other medications or supplements your pet is taking, and also if your pet has had any reactions to previous medications or supplements.

What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember, then resume giving it every 30 days (once a month). If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give 2 doses at once. If you are unsure whether to give a dose, contact your veterinarian.

What is the most important information I should know?
NexGard is only for dogs. Do not use in dogs less than 8 weeks of age or less than 2kg of body weight. Do not use in cats. NexGard should only be given to the animal for whom it was prescribed. If a flea infestation is present, all pets in the household should be treated with an appropriate product.

Who should not take it?
Not for use in animals hypersensitive (allergic) to afoxolaner. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures. Consult your veterinarian before using NexGard in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs (female animals nursing their young).

What side effects may be seen when taking NexGard?
May see vomiting, dry/flaky skin, diarrhea, lethargy or lack of appetite. Consult your veterinarian if you notice any of the above side effects.

If your pet experiences an allergic reaction to the medication, signs may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. If you observe any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.

How is it stored?
Store at or below 86 degrees Farenheit. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

What should I do if I know of or suspect there has been an overdose?
If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, or if you observe any of the side effects in your pet, contact your veterinarian immediately.
